Although I don't have "swarms" of flies I can attest that it does not; flies continue to buzz past land on other parts of the table. For power sources, you can use two AA batteries or use the USB plug, and supply our own power source. I plugged the USB plug into a charging block. It would be nice if this fan had built-in rechargeable batteries and to recharge by any USB-C charger.
